MET GALA 2014 STUNNERS AND BUMMERS

This years Met Gala theme of the night was a tribute to Charles James, America's First Couturier, and we expected to see bright colors and some over-the-top gowns. Though there were a few that stayed true to this years theme, I must admit the red carpet was a sadly underwhelming. The Met Gala is the Super Bowl of Fashion, and I love seeing the fashion "STUNNERS and BUMMERS" on the red carpet worn by your favorite Entertainers, Models, and Designers. This is definitely one carpet you should stay true to its theme because if not it just looks like you were attending the wrong event. Check out some of last night's red carpet moments.

I love that these ladies brought the Old Hollywood Glamour to the carpet. Blush tones were popular, and sometimes paired with black and white accents (in Dita's case red) which really made for a feminine, sophisticated and polished look. Modern day Couturier's such as, Zac Posen and Prabal Gurung are definitely staples for fashionistas hitting this red carpet. Well done ladies!

Always one to take fashion risks, Rihanna looked flawless is this gorgeously tailored white Stella McCartney creation. Baring her mid-drift and messy up-do this look is still sleek, statuesque, sexy and reinvents classic looks on this carpet. Who better to mix Rock n Roll and Fashion than Stella McCartney, right? This was definitely one of my FAVS of the night!

Sarah Silverman, is known as a corky, but cute comedian that literally STUNNED me when seeing her Met Gala ensemble. She looks absolutely gorgeous in this Zac Posen gown. Nicely done Sarah!

Kim K's Lanvin gown was most definitely an upgrade from her last year's tapestry disaster. It was a bit on the safe side, and it looks as though she decided to simplify her look from when she left her hotel to when she hit the red carpet. Seems like she took a note from Coco Chanel herself “before leaving the house, a lady should stop, look in the mirror, and remove one piece of jewelry.”

This by far was the biggest bummer of the night. She's been WOWING us with all year with her red carpet fashion, but this is so unflattering for her. I'm surprised PRADA designed this for her. Sorry Lupita!

SPRING COUTURE 2014 - BEST PICKS

Spring couture 2014 is full of some exciting, adventurous collections from the best designers out there. We've picked some of our favourites so far and first is Valentino's stunning collection. Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierepaolo Piccioli have impressed people everywhere with these clothes, with ballerina dresses and more muted, simple designs. It looks like the duo has been inspired a lot by scenery painters, with Piccioli saying "The artisanal tradition strongly relates to the basis of what we do in couture." As the designers absorbed things from their trips to Rome, especially when visiting the opera, they drew inspiration from hand-painted canvases and production design, bringing a new level of sophistication and innovative ideas to the catwalk.

Karl Lagerfeld surprises us all with his Chanel collection, with another stunning set capturing everyone's attention. This set is white and a lovely metaphor for lightness and elegance. Talking about his idea for the clothes, Karl explained he wanted it to be feminine but very boyish. He said "no stiletto, no platforms, no Louboutins!" The clothes were modern and there was a vibrant, playful feel to it as the models ran/skipped/hopped down the staircase. The theme of freedom and being liberated ran throughout the show, even in the darker evening dresses, which oozed elegance and divinity. Colours used were predominantly pales, with a sprinkle of pastels and some metallics incorporated in the outfits, ensuring each element of the show blends well to create a chic look and "a different attitude," in the words of Mr Lagerfeld.

Versace... WOW. Never one to be afraid to try new things or experiment with bold colors and designs, Donatella used daring cuts and riveting hoods on some of her pieces. With singer Lady Gaga (also the star of Versace's advertising campaign) sitting front row as her song 'Donatella' playing, the models began to walk down the runway. Donatella is known for welcoming rock/pop stars into the brand and this season, Grace Jones was a huge inspiration, with the hoods and sensational corsets. Of course, this wouldn't be a Versace show without bright colours, glitter, glitz and furs, so expect to be dazzled when you see the full runway pictures.

Jean Paul Gaultier is the next collection we felt needed to be one of our favourite picks. "Life is a butterfly! So all the collection is that!" are the words of Jean Paul Gaultier, who showcased his stunning line of couture pieces. The ideas were all innovative and brought a delightful touch of nature to the runway, as the chic ladies were then transformed into "showgirls", wearing burlesque style outfits and brilliant corsets. The idea of growth and transformation was prominent throughout and Gaultier never strayed from the theme of butterflies, ensuring there was an element of them in each of his outfits. Silk, mesh and leather were key materials used in this glittering, unique collection that is definitely going to be talked about and admired for years to come.

The final collection is Armani Prive. While we were amazed by all of the Spring Couture 2014, this was another one that was beyond beautiful, with two clear themes running through every look: black and white movies, and his love for Asian culture. These are two themes we know Giorgio Armani is passionate about, as seen in some of his earlier collections. Now, he uses Indian shawls and sari fabrics in a variety of patterns and styles to bring a modern feel to classic looks. All the models had their heads wrapped in scarfs as they walked down the runway, which was a nice touch to each outfit. His evening selection was particularly jaw-dropping, and we can definitely see where he's drawn inspiration from old black and white movies, with no shortage of glitter and sparkles.
